We collect information from our donors and sponsors, such as contact and payment information, and demographic information about our donors.
Primary Purpose for Collection and Use of Personal Information
We use contact and payment information to process donations and sponsorships. We also use this information for our legitimate interest in updating you about your sponsorship or sponsored child. We may also alert you to other ways to engage with our ministry, including giving opportunities and job opportunities. Occasionally, we use other information, including information from third parties, to learn about donors and sponsors to identify other individuals
who might be interested in helping children in poverty.
This includes sharing anonymized data with cooperative database providers.

If you apply for a job posting or become an employee, we collect information necessary to process your application or to retain you as an employee. This may include, among other things, your Social Security Number. Providing this information is required for employment. We may also conduct behavioral testing to evaluate suitability for positions, and your responses may include some personal data.

If you travel on a Heart of Love International Tour or participate in a Heart of Love event, including virtual events, we collect additional information about you with your acknowledgment, including dietary preferences, health requirements, passport and visa information, background information (including government identification numbers such as Social Security Number), video recordings, and emergency contact information.

If you write a letter to a sponsored child, we store those letters digitally including any information you include in the letter.

We store letters and communication for our legitimate interests, for example so that they can be referenced by both the writer and the child, as well as to monitor communications for inappropriate behavior. Other legitimate interests may include improving our services and/or informing you of opportunities to partner with Heart of Love International, based on the content of this letter.

Please note, if you fail to provide certain personal information when requested, we may not be able to complete certain transactions or perform obligations that we have to you (such as processing donations or sponsorships or facilitating your participation in the event or tour.)
In addition to the information that we collect from you directly, we also receive information about you from other sources, including third parties, business partners, our affiliates, or publicly available sources. For example, if you submit a job application or become an employee, we conduct a background check. We also check the National Sex Offender registry to ensure the safety of Heart of Love International’s sponsored children and use other public information to investigate possible sex offenses. We may verify the accuracy of your data by comparing it to 3rd party sources. We perform these checks to protect all the children that we serve and to serve with integrity.
We may also use the personal information we acquire about you from 3rd party sources to help provide better service to you and to identify potential new supporters. One example of this would be comparing your address data to the National Change of Address service.
Use and Processing of Information
In addition to the purposes and uses described above, we use information in the following ways:

- To process donations and sponsorship.
- To improve our services and support our mission.

Although the sections above describe our primary purpose in collecting your information, in many situations, we have more than one purpose. As a result, our collection and processing of your information is based in different contexts upon your consent, our need to perform a contract, our obligations under law, and/or Heart of Love International’s legitimate interest.
To the extent we maintain and use personal information in a de-identified form, we will not attempt to reidentify the information except for the purpose of determining whether our deidentification processes satisfy our legal obligations.
Cookies and Similar Technology
A cookie is a series of data characters that, when programmed into a website, the web server places into the browser’s application folder on your computer. Once placed on your machine, the cookie allows the website to “recognize” you as a unique individual. Cookies do not collect data from the end user’s device.
Cookies determine the success of Heart of Love International’s website and marketing campaigns. This allows us to be good stewards of the donations that are given to us to determine our online effectiveness, which also helps keep our expenses low. Cookies can be removed from your device. In addition to cookies, we use other technologies, including pixel tags, to gather information on how visitors interact with our website and to help us efficiently monitor our website and marketing campaigns. We also occasionally share select non-personal information with trusted third parties. Heart of Love International and its third-party vendors use pixel tags to track and analyze non-personally identifiable usage information to compile statistical traffic analysis or usage patterns. Third-party cookies may also be used to inform, optimize and serve Heart of Love International ads on other websites based on your visits to Heart of Love International websites.
We collect information on the pages you have visited on our Website and the contents of those pages, any information you input, your referring URL or IP address, your time of visit and related session information, your requested page, displayed and modified html, Web browser type, user agent, status of request (successful reply), cookies, browser timings, additional
API/AJAX requests and responses, query string, mouse movements, page scrolls, clicks, device orientation when applicable, screen size, window size, selections, data entered, and information below. We may associate user-identifiable information with the data collected to improve your experience. We also use this data to better understand Website usage in the aggregate so that we know what areas our website users prefer or what we can improve. This information is stored and can be used for both session replay and statistical reporting.
Your Rights and Choices
Heart of Love International provides all rights to your information required by law. In any case, Heart of Love International will consider all individual requests regarding their personal information. These requests may include:
1. Access to Your Personal Information. You may request access to your personal information or confirm that we have information about you by contacting us at the address described below. In certain limited circumstances, you may also request to receive access to your data in a portable, machine-readable format. If required by law, upon request, we will provide you with reasonable access to the personal information we have about you.
2. Changes to Your Personal Information. We rely on you to keep your personal
information up-to-date and accurate. Our website allows you to modify your account
profile. You may also contact us at the address described below to request that your
information be modified. Note that we keep historical information in our backup files as
law permits.
3. Deletion of Your Personal Information. You may request that we delete your personal information by contacting us at the address described below. If required by law we will grant a request to delete information, but you should note that in many situations, we must keep your personal information to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, or for another one of our business purposes.
4. Online Tracking. We do not currently recognize “Do Not Track” instructions.
5. Objection to or Restriction of Certain Processing. In certain scenarios and jurisdictions, you can object to our processing of your personal information or request that we restrict its processing by contacting us at the address described below.
6. Promotional Emails. You may choose to provide us with your email address so we can send materials to you. You can stop receiving promotional emails by following the instructions to unsubscribe in your emails. We will still send you service-related communications if you decide not to receive promotional emails.
7. Revocation of Consent. You may revoke consent to processing (where such processing is based upon consent) by contacting us at the address described below. Suppose you revoke your consent to process personal information. In that case, we may no longer be able to facilitate a child sponsorship for you or provide you with other services.
8. Opt-out of Targeted Advertising. You may opt out of targeted advertising by contacting us at the address listed below. If you are a Colorado resident, you may have an authorized agent submit a request on your behalf by having them contact us at the address described below.
Please note, not all of the rights described above are absolute, and they do not apply in all circumstances. In some cases, we will limit or deny your request if the law permits or requires us to do so, or if we are unable to adequately verify your identity. We will not discriminate against individuals who exercise their privacy rights under applicable law.
Note that, as required by law, we will require you to prove your identity. We may verify your identity by phone call or email. Depending on your request, we will ask for information such as your name, address, phone number, account number and/or billing information. We may also ask you to provide a signed declaration confirming your identity.
If you disagree with our denial of a request, you may appeal our decision by contacting us as indicated in the “Contact Information” section below with the subject line “Appeal.”
How We Protect and Retain Personal Information
No method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is fully secure. While we make reasonable efforts to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure, we cannot guarantee its security. If we are required by law to inform you of a breach of your personal information, we will notify you electronically, in writing, or by telephone, if legally permitted.
Some of our websites permit you to create an account. When you do, you will be prompted to create a password. Transmission of Information to Other Countries. Your information may be processed in a foreign country where privacy laws are less stringent than the laws in your country. By submitting your personal information to us you agree to the transfer, storage, and processing of your information in a country other than your country of residence, including, but not necessarily limited to, the Unites States. Heart of Love International utilizes Standard Contractual Clauses as an adequacy measure for data transfers from the European Union.
Third Party Applications/Websites. We have no control over the privacy practices of websites or applications that we do not own. In order to complete certain kinds of NFT transactions you may need to use third-party applications. In doing so you may be required to provide personal data to such third-party applications and in those cases, the privacy policies and terms of the third party will apply to the processing.
Changes to This Privacy Policy. We may change our privacy policy and practices over time. To the extent that our Privacy Policy changes in a material way, the policy that was in place at the time that you submitted personal information to us will generally govern that information unless we receive your consent to the new privacy policy. We will note the effective date of the latest version at the beginning of the Privacy Policy.
