TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

Heart of Love International – Shoreline Transitional Housing

Shoreline Transitional Housing provides a supportive environment for women in crisis. These women are typically homeless, coming out of abusive relationships, recovering from drug or alcohol dependency, or escaping other harmful or toxic situations.

Shoreline Transitional Housing provides food, housing, and essential items for these women, all within the protection of a safe environment. The program includes Christian- based counseling, mental health services, life training skills, access to healthcare, family reunification and other programs that help these women move towards self-sufficiency.

Other programs offering transitional housing for women often limit their stay to 30 or 60 days. Research has found that this type of program is insufficient for establishing a firm support base and ensuring that residents have the tools to succeed when they reenter society. Shoreline Transitional Housing designs their program so that women can stay as long as two years. During this time, they often find employment, return to school, and make progress in other areas of their life.

There are two main groups in this population in the greater New London area. Women under 30 often have children. Unfortunately, this group is growing at about 9% annually. The second group, women 30 and over, is growing at a rate of about 8% annually. This group includes those who have been on the streets or in bad situations for considerably longer. They often need more help to turn their lives around.

Women coming from programs such as Shoreline Transitional Housing are prepared to be productive citizens and can reunite with their children.
